What Is International Day of Charity?

At Thames Rockets, we are very proud of our charity partnerships and International Day of Charity is a great way to remind us why supporting charities throughout the globe is so important.

What is International Day Of Charity?

International Day of Charity is a time to raise awareness about helping others in their time of need. Whether you are able to donate your time or funds, this day is a great opportunity for people all over the world to get involved in a charitable outlet.

When Is International Day Of Charity?

The United Nations chose the 5th of September as International Day of Charity as it is the anniversary of Mother Teresa’s death. Mother Teresa dedicated her entire life to charity work, so in 2012, the UN came together and decided to honour her incredible work with this day. They invite all their members to encourage events and activities that drive awareness, donations and education.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity

In the heart of busy London is St Thomas’ Hospital. Our bright red speedboats whizz past the hospital every day, so we were thrilled to officially partner with them in 2022. The Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity is committed to supporting the hospital with new treatments and research as well as helping very ill patients on the road to recovery. The charity also focus on ensuring the nurses and doctors working in these environments have the support they need to do their jobs to their best ability, providing a high level of health and wellbeing support. Their work is truly indispensable!

In September 2023 we took part in an abseil to raise money for the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity. Four members of our team faced their fears and descended 160ft down the side of St Thomas’ Hospital! We were so proud of the team and even prouder of the money we were able to raise for the charity’s amazing work.

We have continued to support the charity this year and are hoping to glide down those hospital walls once again to bring awareness and sponsorship to such a fantastic cause.

Make A Wish UK

As well as partnering with Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity, we have also teamed up with the Make A Wish Foundation, an incredible charity bringing joy to children with a critical illness. Over 60,000 children in the UK have been diagnosed with a critical condition, and Make A Wish make dreams come true for young people all around the world.

We were so honoured to be contacted by Make A Wish recently as a child chose a speedy Thames Rockets experience as their wish! We were more than happy to oblige, twisting and turning them and their family down the Thames, boogying to some classic tunes and blasting through the water at 35mph. Since then, we were thrilled to partner with Make A Wish further, giving as many families as possible some much needed fun and a day to forget about their worries!
